Texts and Documents
is a creation of faculty and students in the History Department of Hanover
College
Online Data Archive
A collection of machine-readable data provided by the University of Wisconsin
Data and Program Library Service. A number of the sets contain historical data,
on topics such as the 18th and 19th century slave trade, French provincial
intendants, 1661-1790, the Russian imperial bureaucracy, 1762-1881, and 15th
century catasti for Florentine domains and Verona.
The Avalon Project
This collection of over 150 historical documents ranges from some pre-18th
century titles through the 20th century. A "major collections" category
contains sets of related documents, such as Franco-American Diplomacy, Papers
of the Confederate States of America, the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Includes
a title and author index to all documents.

UVA China Link
A collection of resources on Chinese history created by Professor John Israel.
The Wars for Vietnam: 1945
to 1975
Covers the conflicts in Vietnam from the period of French involvement through
the growing U.S. involvement, up to the fall of Saigon in 1975. Contains a main
overview essay and hypertext links to full-text documents, presidential

This site provides a large number of links to Western European historical

AHDS History
Based at the University of Essex, AHDS History is a digital collection of over
600 separate studies on historical, social, and economic issues ranging in time
from the tenth century to the twentieth.
The Times: Digital Archive 1785-1985
Search the full text of The Times (London) including articles, advertisements,
and picture captions. See an image of either just the article or the full page.
Victorian Web
Provides in-depth treatment of the economics, religion, philosophy, literature,
visual arts, science, and politics of Britain during the 19th century. "Social
Context" leads to an extensive "Victorian History Overview" that provides links
to Victorian political, social, and economic history sites, as well as sites
about the Empire and international relations of the 19th century.
VL-Deutschland: Geschichte
A gateway to information about historical research in Germany. You can follow
links to find out more about German research on a wide variety of historical

Magazine Stacks: Tables of Contents of Historical Journals and Monographic
Series in German
A site that allows you to keyword search the tables of contents of German
historical serials, plus a few British titles. A large number of older journals
are included, and the indexing usually goes back to the first issues.
The Jewish History Resource
Center
Sponsored by the Dinur Center for Research in Jewish History of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem, this site has links to a large number of sites
concerned with Jewish history, plus conference information, grant information,
syllabi, bibliographies, news groups, and much more.
The Nizkor Project
A site focused on the Holocaust and Holocaust denial. It includes a FAQ list of
Holocaust denial issues and a large FTP archive which is gradually being made
available as full-text documents on the Web.
REESWeb
Located at the University of Pittsburgh, REESWeb is a comprehensive index of
electronic resources in Russian and East European Studies. Among its many
offerings are national homepages, archives of information, and Web servers in
the former Soviet Union.

A very extensive, well-annotated list of a great variety of resources
maintained by Maria C. Pantelia at the University of California, Irvine.
The Labyrinth
Sponsored by Georgetown University, this site contains full text documents
(usually in the original language), bibliographies, teaching resource
materials, information about professional organizations, and a wide variety of
links.
ORB
In addition to full-text essays and bibliographies, this medieval studies site
has a large collection of documents in its resources for teaching section ("The
Online Medieval Sourcebook").
NetSERF
A good collection of links to Internet resources in medieval studies.
The Medieval Review
A collection of full-text book reviews in all areas of Medieval Studies which

UNITED STATES HISTORY SITES
History: American and British on the Internet
One of the most extensive and well-organized general sites for American and
British history. Includes access to a large variety of general and thematic
sites, historical documents and electronic texts, bibliographies, archival
collections, electronic journals, historical associations, and history
listservs. A good place to start when looking for historical sites on the
Internet.
American Memory Project:
Library of Congress
A collection of primary source documents and archives from the Library of
Congress pertaining to American history and culture. Includes African-American
pamphlets, Civil War photographs, a collection of women's suffrage documents,
etc. Users can search the collections by key word or terms. Consists of printed
text, collections of photographs, and some scanned manuscripts. Additional
collections will be added.
Documenting the
American South
Contains primary sources that document the cultural history of the American
South from the Southern point of view. Includes diaries, autobiographies,
travel accounts, titles about slavery, and regional literature. Emphasis is on
the 19th century.
Furman University
Nineteenth Century Documents Project
Offers transcriptions of important primary texts from 19th century American
history. Includes a large number of newspaper editorials about important issues
of the period.
American Civil War Homepage
An excellent site, large and well-organized. Offers access to letters, diaries,
and other documents; graphic images; battle histories; combat rosters; state
and local studies; etc. The U.S. Civil War
Center also provides links to a wide variety of sites, including books
and magazines; unit histories; battlefields, cemeteries, and parks; maps; and
