Overview

Literature is writing and written texts that use a series of letters and words to communicate a story or message. Styles and features of literature may differ based on language, country, culture or religion. Literature can also be grouped or identified for the message they convey or the argument they support. The development of literature has been largely influenced by religion, with the Holy Bible being the most obvious example of religious literature.

All texts can be classified as fiction or non-fiction and further classified by topic or theme. Texts may not always be limited to writing, as artistic objects, pictures, films, television and radio programs and websites may be considered texts because they show the characteristics of literature texts in their ability to convey a message. However, literature texts may also be limited to disclude some written texts that do not uphold certain expectations.
