Saddam defiant in first court appearance
Saddam Hussein has questioned the legitimacy of the tribunal set up to try him during his first appearance in the dock.
Iraqi Special Tribunal
The Iraqi Special Tribunal is a body established by the Coalition Provisional Authority and now under the jurisdiction of the new Iraqi interim government to try Iraqi nationals or residents accused of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes or other serious crimes. The Tribunal will try Saddam Hussein, Ali Hassan al-Majid, also known as "Chemical Ali", former Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan, former deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz and other former senior officials in the deposed Ba'athist regime.
