This is a list of countries by population. The data are from the CIA World Factbook 2002 and although not always quite up to date, at least roughly accurate. Only independent countries are listed, dependent or occupied areas are listed under the country which governs the area. The number for these dependent or occupied areas are not included in the figures for the independent countries themselves.
